March Pub Night - St. David's Day

You know, I keep thinking the next pub night can't possible get any better than the last and club members keep proving me wrong!  What a great time it was.  We checked out Connor's Gaelic Pub on Bank St. this month (out of the market for the first time!) and it was pretty nice.  The food was good and well, I'll assume the drinks we're good since some of us had a pretty good time! ;) For my part, I'm looking forward to the next one on April 10th.  Guaranteed to be the best so far? I'm starting to think so!!

St. David's Day Reception

Well, we almost didn't get in but man, was it ever worth it!  What a nice evening clib members enjoyed at the British High Commission.  Melanie Courtemanche, one of our members, delivered a momveing speech on St. David and the meaning that Wales holds for her.  She gave a shout out to the club (much appreciated) and really well represented the club and the University of Ottawa's Celtic Studies program. Other members got the chance to mingle with members of the Ottawa Welsh Society.

February Ceili

The February Ceili was quite a hit, drawing a crowd of both new and old faces.  Reading week kept some members away as they headed South but the rest of us showed up for a great time with music, dancing and good company.  I'm sure all of you are looking forward to the march ceili which promises to be excellent fun.

La Gaeilge - Irish Language Day

About 25 people showed up for La Gaeilge, Irish Language Day, on February 18.   Three classes of different levels split up, some to begin instruction and others simply to improve on what they already had.  An excellent lunch as well as tea and goodies kept us all going through the day before parting ways to grab some dinner.  We would later be returning for the ceili the same night.

January Pub Night - Robbie Burns Day

Robbie Burns Day saw the Celtic Club turn out in good numbers at the Royal Oak on Laurier Street.  It was a great night of laughs, drinks and celebration as the music from the band played on.  The bagpipes were heard as the haggis was piped in to really kick-off the evening.  Returning members as well as new ones really contributed to making it an excellent night which will hopefully set the tone for future pub nights this semester!

The March Ceili is also forthcoming in the next couple months for which tickets are available from CCÉ for 35$. The Club does have 15 tickets available for only 10$ for students that are members of the Celtic Club. Interested in coming out to the St.Patrick's Day Ceili on March 17th, 2012? Email the Club at celtic.uottawa@hotmail.ca. But be quick, the number of tickets at a discount student price are limited!

January Ceili - First Ceili of the New Year.

The Celtic Club members joined Comhaltas Ceoltóiri Éireann (CCÉ) for their monthly Ceili held at the Blessed Sacrament Church on Fourth Ave in the Glebe on Saturday night last week for the first Ceili of 2012.  The Ceili was a huge success with many first-time attendees getting a great taste of what exactly is involved in the Ceili.

There was a great show from the dancers of the CCÉ itself (dance classes are given Monday and Wednesday nights, visit the CCÉ's website for more information http://www.ottawacomhaltas.com/) as well as many set dances for the attendees to take part in.
